The melodies are pure A Grade in your face 'guts' with a lot of soul and character, and definately well worth listening to. She plays many different instruments on the CD including a wonderful take on a harmonica that seems to highlight her vocals immensily. It was a very powerful CD, and in my mind, any CD that promotes inner strength to teenagers is a definite A+ Its music is very sultry, and strong, and the songs like "you oughta know" and "right through you" are a tribute to women, encouraging them to stand up and realize their independance, where others encouraged people to accept and actually enjoy their moods or feelings, rather than be afraid of them. The cd is very unique in its music, and set Alanis Morissette on fire, and launched her into the world. This album also features some interesting aspects, such as an alternate take of "You Oughta Know" (track 13), and if you let the CD play through entirely, you will find a secret track called "Forgive Me Love" written into the album a while after the last song has ended.ĭefinitely worth a try, I would recommend it to anyone who can enjoy a strong woman singing about her life and values in a very powerful way. You will remember some of the chart-topping tracks, such as "Hand in My Pocket," "You Oughta Know," "You Learn," and even "Ironic" from their heavy radio play, especially from the mid-to-late 90's. Jagged Little Pill is a very good album to listen to in the car, on road trips, cleaning house, or even just relaxing! Some tracks are up-beat, such as "All I Really Want," which opens the album, and some are more somber and serious, such as "Perfect," which is a song reflecting on unfulfilled parent/child relationships.

Alanis seems to always put her heart and soul into her lyrics and the music is powerful enough to complement her voice perfectly. It is fueled by all sorts of emotions, from childhood angst, feel-good grooving, anger over relationships, and even jealousy. Alanis is one of my favorite artists, but all biases aside, I think just about anyone can get into this album.
